Last month, Lionel Richie got dizzy in the middle of a concert and was forced to sit down, and was eventually taken to the hospital. He said friends started calling him out of concern while he recuperated.
“When you turn 80, things happen differently,” he said his friends told him, to which the multi-platinum star replied, “I’m not 80!”
Indeed, the singer-songwriter just turned 77 in June. But there are probably more artists than you think who are on tour this summer who are older than the former Commodores frontman.
The voice of a generation remains the most relentlessly active octogenarian in popular music. On Tuesday, he played Forest Hills Stadium, 61 years after his first visit there in 1965.
