What does 3/4s of Green Day do when they’re done playing Green Day songs? They get on stage and play everyone else’s songs.
The Coverups, the cover band made up of most of Green Day (everyone but the drummer, Tres Cool) have been playing a smattering of live gigs since 2018 where they knock out 20-35 tunes a night, often as a pleasant surprise to the crowd.
February 27, 2024 at The Garage in London was the band’s 20th official appearance.
Fronted by Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt on guitars, as well as Green Day’s touring guitarist Jason White on more guitars, Tuesday’s two dozen covers spanned from the glam of Sweet and Bowie to the grunge of Nirvana to the ’70s FM radio of Cheap Trick and Tom Petty.
