Dolly Parton live debuted the song “9 to 5” on February 20, 1981, at the now defunct Riviera Resort in Las Vegas.
The country star was at the height of her mainstream career with the blue collar song she wrote and movie she co-starred in alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
In ’81 Dolly had signed a three-year contract with the hotel and casino that reportedly paid her $350,000 a week for each of the 22 weeks she had agreed to perform between ’81-’84.
$350k way back in the Ronald Reagan era was worth about $1.2 million today.
