Elliott Smith performed the last concert of his life 20 years ago, September 19, 2003.
The Oscar-nominated singer / songwriter would stab himself in the heart a month later during an argument with his girlfriend.
The darkly talented Smith had struggled with drugs and alcohol for years but had not just began to go cold turkey on the 19th; but he also gave up sugar, caffeine, and red meat.
Video of that last show at Redfest in Salt Lake City reveals an upbeat, smiling Smith. No hints what his future may hold.
