Porcupine Tree, the experimental, trippy, powerful prog-rock trio reunited this year and kicked off the first leg of their world tour with an epic performance in Toronto, Canada — their first live gig in 12 years.
Supporting their first new album in over a decade, the seven-song Closure/Continuation, the two-time Grammy-nominated Brits, live debuted each of the new tracks at the Meridian Hall show on 9/10/22.
The last time Porcupine Tree toured was in 2010 in support of its double album The Incident. Years after that tour had ended, multi-instrumentalist and singer Steven Wilson swore the group hadn’t broken up, nor had plans to do anything other than pursue temporary solo projects, but PT would return.
And what a return.
The ever-evolving band who has produced elements of hard rock, metal and jazz, first started 35 years ago. Miraculously they’re more popular today than a decade ago.
Sounding like a Signals-era Rush if Geddy Lee wasn’t a soprano, this trio is currently centered around a fierce and relentless rhythm section which is often thundering in unusual time signatures.
