Setlist Insider: Biffy Clyro

Setlist Insider: Biffy Clyro

Biffy Clyro formed in Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1995, when 15-year-old Simon Neil first started playing alongside drummer Ben Johnston and bassit Barry McGee. McGee was replaced by Ben’s twin brother James Johnston. Neil and the Johnston brothers have stayed the core of the band across the band’s 30+ year history.

The group’s first UK top 40 single “Questions and Answers,” from The Vertigo of Bliss (2003), reached #26 on the UK singles chart in June 2003. Their first UK top 10 single came a few years later when “Mountains” went to #5.

Biffy’s popularity kept rolling through 2013 when they dropped Opposites, which became their first UK #1 album. Ellipsis followed at #1 in 2016, and A Celebration of Endings went to the top in 2020. The hits have kept coming, last year and Futique became their fourth #1 UK album.

Recently Simon and Ben came through the Setlist Studios to talk about their earliest shows, the wild part of inviting the fans to create a setlist, and guessing their most-played songs.
