Death Cab For Cutie Live Debuts 4 New Tunes in Philly

Death Cab for Cutie wowed the WXPN NON-COMM 2026 on Wednesday (5/6) with a handful of live debuts from their forthcoming album, I Built You A Tower.

The indie darlings led by Ben Gibbard (vocals, guitar, piano), and accompanied by Nick Harmer (bass), Jason McGerr (drums), Dave Depper (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) and Zac Rae (keyboards, guitar), performed 10 tunes on the second day of the NON-COMMvention, the station’s annual gathering for noncommercial Triple A radio outlets.

“Noncommercial Triple A radio” means noncommercial adult album alternative radio, like KCRW in Los Angeles; KEXP out of Seattle; and KCMP (The Current) from Minneapolis. It overlaps with college radio because both are often nonprofit, music focused and typically an NPR station.

Formed in Bellingham, Washington, in 1997, I Built You a Tower, due next month will be the group’s 11th album, and one that comes at the heels of a bunch of personal and professional emotional change.
