South Korea took home its first golden Oscar in the Best Original Song category when “Golden,” from the animated feature KPop Demon Hunters.
The songwriting team of EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seon and Teddy Park were awarded the trophies for the tune that was performed by the fictional girl group HUNTR/X in the Netflix film and sung by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami
The win continued the run of Oscar victories for the nation that began when Parasite (2019) won Best Picture and Youn Yuh-jung won for Supporting Actress in Minari (2020).
KPop Demon Hunters also won for Animated Feature Film beating out Zootopia 2 (Disney), Elio (Pixar), Arco (Sony), and Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (Maybe Movies / France 3 Cinéma).
