Remembering Dolly Parton

Remembering Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton had a full life spanning 80 years which blessed practically everyone who heard her along the way. Famously born in a one room cabin in the Smoky Mountains, Dolly was the fourth of 12 children and grew up poor to parents who could neither read nor write.

Her father, Robert Lee Parton, worked with his hands as a sharecropper and in construction while her mother, Avie Lee, raised the family while singing church spirituals around the tiny home.

It inspired Dolly to begin singing and writing songs at an early age, even performing on radio and TV in Knoxville as just a kid.

Even though she left for Nashville the day after graduating from high school, she didn’t turn into a star overnight. Instead she found success writing tunes for others including her uncle Bill Owens.
