Seeing your favorite band on New Years Eve is such a treat and since 1989 Phish fans have been lucky recipients as the group has followed in the footsteps of their biggest influence, the Grateful Dead, who also like to ring in the New Year on stage in trippy fashion.
Phish began their NYE gigs in Boston in 1989 and continued in 1990, and 1992. They did them in Worcester, MA in 1991 and 1993, Big Cypress, FL in 1999, and Miami, FL in 2014.
But in 1995, they began playing multi night shows at Madison Square Garden, leading up to their always fascinating NYE gig. This year marks the band’s 18th year at the NYC venue after rocking the historic joint in 1997, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Last Wednesday (12/31), the show was sprinkled with call backs from previous NYE gigs, inside jokes, and some visuals that it’s safe to say, no one was prepared for.
