Camaron Marvel Ochs aka Cam studied psychology at UC Davis, where she sang in an a cappella group before learning guitar during a study-abroad program in Holland. After college she moved to Nashville, to pursue songwriting and performing, eventually signing with Sony Music.
Before her own solo breakthrough, Cam wrote for several big stars. She co-wrote “Maybe You’re Right” for Miley Cyrus’s 2013 album Bangerz and most recently contributed five songs to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. She also collaborated with Avicii, Jack Antonoff, and Sam Smith on her own material.
You’ve probably heard “Burning House,” which earned her a Grammy nomination in 2016 for Best Country Solo Performance. Although the luck didn’t go her way then, this year she received a Grammy Award as a credited songwriter on Cowboy Carter, which won Album of the Year.
This summer she released her third studio album All Things Light, inspired by her family, spirituality, and renewal. So when she stopped by the Setlist studios to chat with Bree Wilde, it was no surprise that she talked about her young daughter (who she dedicated the new record to) and her musical tastes which includes K-pop Demon Hunters.
