The 2005 headlining performance of the Pixies at Lollapalooza was a perfect storm of a legendary band experiencing their comeback at a great festival that was beginning to reinvent itself.
Today Lollapalooza seems like a mainstay summer festival by Lake Michigan in the shadows of the skyscrapers of Chicago. But it wasn’t always like that.
It began as a groundbreaking travelling roadshow of mostly alternative acts who blazed its magic around the US from 1991-97. It wasn’t until 2005 that its founder, Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, figured out it should be an annual concert in one place in the US, namely the Windy City.
