Depending on who you talk to, the return of Catfish and the Bottlemen is either one of the greatest bits of news in alternative rock or much ado about nothing from a band who made three records that sounded the same and whose singer has a big head.
Last Thursday in Liverpool the quartet drew their largest audience ever when 32,000 headlined the In The Park Festival at Sefon Park.
While Van McCann and Benji Blakeway were back, it was the first time they were performing as Catfish without guitarist Johnny “Bondy” Bond and drummer Bob Hall who played their last gigs with the band in 2021.
The writing was on the wall in 2021 when Hall told his 25,000 Instagram followers that the band’s shows at Reading, Leeds, Swansea and Warrington were his last.
