The Jesus and Mary Chain’s masterpiece Psychocandy was a breath of fresh air in the middle of the ’80s, as it combined brutal feedback and guitar noises with stony, dreamy, heavenly harmonies.
The single that split through the new wave and pop of the day was “Just Like Honey” which combined thick guitars played delicately and vocals sung like a secret.
Later Karen Parker’s background singing floats in with the chorus and, voila, a hit forever.
As the band gear up for the 40th anniversary of their debut, that also contained the squeaky “Never Understand” and lovable “You Trip Me Up,” they are also featuring songs from their latest collection, Glasgow Eyes, which came out in March.
