Arcade Fire Celebrates Funeral’s 20th Anniversary in Europe

Arcade Fire won over hearts and minds in 2004 thanks to their truly original album Funeral that many thought they would be the ones to lead rock and roll into the new century.

Well-dressed, emotional, thrilling live shows climaxing in sing-a-longs, the multi-instrumentalists from Montreal, Canada, had it all.

They were so hot that when Google wanted to advertise how cool their Internet apps like Maps and Street View were on the Chrome web browser they used a new Arcade Fire song to get the kids to listen.

Funeral was both modern and from another time. There were strings and keyboards, guitars, accordions and xylophones. But most importantly there was an urgency and a seriousness that made you question everything coming from Canada.
