The 2026 Oscars last night (3/15) was memorable for many reasons including the fact Sinners become the most-nominated film in Academy Awards history with 16 nominations.
Many of the milestones involved women. On Sunday, filmmaker Autumn Durald Arkapaw become the first woman to an Oscar for Cinematography in the Academy’s 98-year history. Amy Madigan set the longest gap between nominations and a win at 37 years between nominations. Jessie Buckley becoming the first Irish winner of Actress in a Leading Role.
And sadly Diane Warren extended the record for most Oscar nominations without a competitive win with 16 nominations across 38 years.
Then there was Barbra Streisand who surprised the audience at the Dolby Theatre and the billion viewers around the globe when she appeared during the In Memoriam segment to pay tribute to Robert Redford who died in September at 89.
