Chance the Rapper kicked off his And We Back Tour in Houston and New Orleans, celebrating his long-awaited sophomore album.
The Bayou Music Center was packed on Friday (9/26), and The Fillmore followed on Saturday (9/27), for the first live performances of material from the Chicago rapper’s Star Line, which dropped in August.
It took six years for Chance to follow up his 2019 debut The Big Day, and fans of one of the freshest voices in hip-hop were stoked and Star Line’s first week on the charts saw it at a respectable #22.
Chance’s discography is unusual because his early breakout projects were mixtapes, not traditional albums: 10 Day (2012) and Acid Rap (2013) is what got his ball rolling, while Coloring Book (2016) — still considered a mixtape by the artist — became the first streaming-only release to win a Grammy and took Best Rap Album.
