Even though Sacramento’s Deftones have been making their own unique heavy music for three decades, their frontman Chino Moreno says they’re more popular than ever.
It’s a claim that’s hard to dispute for several reasons, including the demand and success for tickets for their European / UK tour that kicked off in Paris last month (1/29) with a stop the next day in Belgium (1/30) and Hamburg two nights later (2/1).
That increased popularity has got to bring a smile to the faces of the suits who quietly bought the majority of their publishing rights to the band that NME recently dubbed “rock’s most reliable band.”
Billboard, who broke the story last month, estimated that the four out of five members who sold the rights to Warner Bros that they are likely to reap between $40-$75 million for their catalogue, including White Pony which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
