When the Go-Go’s sang “this town is our town,” on their debut in 1981, who knew it would ring true 40+ years later.
In a Los Angeles backyard on Saturday (8/23), three members of the Go-Go’s (cleverly named The Go’s) jammed with their friends comedian Margaret Cho, Letters to Cleo singer Kay Hanley, Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna, Lisa Loeb as well as special guests Fred Armisen, and Nacho Libre himself Jack Black.
It was all part of the 13th annual Rock and Roll Carnival benefitting Musack, a non-profit that provides kids around the world musical instruments and instruction.
Since it began back in 2009, Musack has expanded to where it now gives the gift of music to over 1,000 students per year in locales like Compton, Los Angeles, Haiti, Massachusetts, Alaska, Florida, Tennessee, aboriginal Australia, Appalachia, and Native American reservations across the Southwest US.
