Jimmy Page honored one of his heroes, Link Wray, by not only participating in his induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but coming out of a self-imposed time out and playing a cover of “Rumble.”
Strapped with the iconic double-neck Gibson 12-string he made famous on “Stairway to Heaven,” the Led Zeppelin guitarist performed the dreamy surf punk power chords of the 1958 instrumental to a crowd that couldn’t believe its luck.
“Double neck! Double neck!” The fan who shot this video can be heard in utter glee.
Depending on who you talk to, Page has not performed live since either in 2014 when played 24 seconds of “Ramble On” in France. Or when he played an entire song in 2011.
Personally, I don’t think 24 seconds qualifies as a full appearance.
Therefore I will side with the purists who say the great Jimmy Page’s last time performing live was when he sat down with Roy Harper on the folk singer’s 70th birthday in November, 2011.
