For those about to rock in the desert for a three day weekend… we salute you.
This week the rumor mill was cranked to 11 when a mysterious, new Twitter account Power Trip was followed by Coachella Festival promoters, Goldenvoice; as well as rockers Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica and Iron Maiden.
The instant speculation was there would be a metal version of 2016’s Desert Trip (which was also produced by GV) on the Coachella grounds in Indio. That star-studded weekend featured Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, The Who, Neil Young, and Roger Waters over three special nights.
With Ozzy, Metallica and Maiden all but confirming it via their Twitter activity with the new account, the only question was who would the other three top acts be? Today the official announcement was made and filling out the bill will be AC/DC, Guns n Roses and Tool.
The bands will perform October 6, 7, and 8 at the Empire Polo Club, home of the annual Coachella fest. Tickets start at $600 for the weekend.
The additions of AC/DC and Guns (both of whom have previously headlined Coachella in 2015 and 2016, respectively), but Tool is a bit of a wildcard. All five of the other acts have sold more than 100 million albums each (Ozzy sold over 70 million as a solo act; while his original band, Black Sabbath, has sold 75 million), but Tool, as talented and popular as they may be, have only sold 14 million. Quite the dropoff.
