Glen Hansard was born to be a musician. He left school at 13 and began busking on Dublin’s streets. Music would be central to his life.
The public first really saw him at age 20 when he played the guitarist Outspan Foster in Alan Parker’s 1991 film The Commitments, the award-winning musical-comedy about an Irish soul band.
Around that time, Hansard formed The Frames in Dublin and remained the group’s singer, guitarist and principal songwriter. The band became one of Ireland’s most beloved indie rock acts, releasing six studio albums, two live records, and three EPs.
After years of grinding, their album Burn the Maps went to #1 on the Irish albums chart in 2004.
