On June 23, 2006, J Mascis and members of Broken Social Scene joined forces for a special benefit concert billed as Broken Mascis Scene at the Mod Club Theatre in Toronto.
Instead of an even back-and-forth between both established acts, it was decided that Friday night that Broken Social Scene would become the backing band for the guitar hero and the setlist would be entirely material from his Dinosaur Jr. catalogue as well as his side project, J Mascis + The Fog.
The unusual and refreshing collab took place the night before they both appeared at Toronto’s Olympic Island Festival.
The concert raised money for the Amma Foundation, a Canadian charitable organization inspired by the spiritual leader and author, Mata Amritanandamayi, aka Amma.
