Tyler Childers, the critically acclaimed country rock star, picked the ideal spot Monday afternoon (7/28) to host a free pop-up concert.
The 34-year-old Kentuckian set up his band on the porch of a modest East Nashville sandwich joint called Turkey and the Wolf Icehouse.
A local website described the vibe of the quirky spot where all the seating is outdoors and the carport walls are decorated with inflatable turkeys and flags of each of the Ninja Turtles thusly: “coming here is like having a sandwich in a kid’s room.”
Like most meals in the South that are preceded by a prayer, Childers kicked off the surprise show with the Hank Williams hymn “Old Country Church,” a number he’s covered over 100 times in the last three years.
