Jakob Nowell, the son of Sublime’s Bradley Nowell, has seamlessly followed in his father’s footsteps nearly three decades after his dad’s death. Jakob was just an infant when his dad died in 1996, right before the band’s now-classic self-titled album dropped.
For years he was in the ska-punk band, LAW, which only released one LP in 2018. When they broke up in 2021, he formed a new project with producer Jon Joseph called Jakobs Castle. Their album Enter: The Castle dropped in 2024, which included tunes co-written by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong.
2024 was a big year for Jakob. In January his pop’s old rhythm section, Eric Wilson (bass) and Bud Gaugh (drums) announced he’d be their frontman at both weekends at Coachella. And it was also announced that Rome would be leaving Sublime by the end of ’24 after 15 years of fronting the trio.
Last year the band played several dozen shows and this year they’ve already rocked Red Rocks twice and performed at the Innings Fest.
