Jimmy Page and Robert Plant got back together because of MTV.
The station who used to show music videos, reality shows, cartoons, game shows, and live concerts, had incredible success with MTV: Unplugged and in 1993 taped performances by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, and Neil Young and both the artists and the network profited.
So naturally the network approached Robert Plant and explained how MTV would love to air his classic music but clips from the early ’70s wasn’t really the network’s vibe. They needed something new.
Plant went for it, but had a few demands. First he’d do it with Jimmy Page since, as annoying as it is, he had a little something to do with the unforgettable songs the pair created together.
