Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one: Steven Patrick Morrissey disappointed fans at the Greek Theater Saturday night (11/12/22) when he refused to continue the show after a half hour into the nine song performance. No official reason has been offered.
Morrissey, who is not shy of walking off stage, once made an unscheduled exit from Coachella when the celebrated vegetarian caught a whiff of “burning flesh” from the food tents, and canceled another show after just two songs when he was hit a well-aimed bottle.
This time it was speculated that Moz was uncomfortable singing outside at the Los Angeles venue because of the chilly temperatures. He mentioned it being “extremely cold” before “steaming on” to “Billy Budd,” from 1994’s Vauxhall and I.
California fans may remember when the quirky leader of the Smiths bailed on a Paso Robles crowd on a chilly November evening in 2017 when he claimed the heater on the stage had broken.
Perhaps he should stop booking outdoor shows in the Golden State in November?
Or maybe he shouldn’t play in LA at all in Scorpio Szn. In November of 1991, Morrissey stopped singing after 9 songs at UCLA when four dozen students were injured after a melee ensued after he encouraged the adoring fans to move closer to the stage.
