Marquee Memories: Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach

Marquee Memories: Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach

Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach is the son of a preacher man whose family moved frequently before settling in Rhode Island whose hardcore scene in Providence greatly influenced him.

In 1999, he co-founded Killswitch in Westfield, Massachusetts, with bassist Mike D’Antonio, guitarist Joel Stroetzel, and drummer Adam Dutkiewicz. The group’s self-titled debut album dropped the following year, and along with Alive or Just Breathing in 2002, helped shape American metalcore and made Leach’s voice one of the genre’s most beloved.

Sadly Leach had to leave the band shortly after their second album due to burnout and depression. He was replaced by Howard Jones (not the ’80s synth star, but the dynamite singer) and the band’s momentum continued to peak.

During his decade away, Leach fronted the metal/blues band Seemless, formed The Empire Shall Fall, and reunited with Dutkiewicz on their side project Times of Grace, which released The Hymn of a Broken Man in 2011. He also launched The Weapon, a hardcore project rooted in political and social themes, and ventured into ambient sounds under the solo name The Way Back Within.

Billy Strings Performs as He-Man For His Annual Halloween Concert

Billy Strings performing live

Because he's as close to the master of the universe as a new guitar hero has gotten recently, Billy Strings dressed up as He-Man and welcomed Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull for his annual Halloween concert (10/31) at Baltimore’s CFG Bank Arena.

Billed as Heartbeat of Eternia, the show featured new originals written for the festivities alongside covers of 4 Non Blondes, Diana Ross, Slayer, and Black Sabbath.

Insider: Imminence

Imminence

Imminence began when two Swedish teenagers started jamming in a basement with the humble goal of playing their music in front of people.

Singer/violinist Eddie Berg and guitarist Harald Barrett launched the band in Trelleborg in 2010, pouring all they had into equipment, recordings, videos, and CDs. They booked their own tours in DIY fashion like many before them, but their sound was uniquely theirs.

A Banger Was Released Every Day In November

November gets plenty of credit for turkey, football and the annual rush to buy a slightly larger television. The record stores deserve a little attention, too. From Nirvana unplugging to Wu-Tang kicking the door in, this month has delivered an impressive pile of albums and plenty of ways to drown out Thanksgiving arguments. Here’s one for every day.
