Elvis Costello blasted onto the rock scene in 1977 with his debut album, My Aim Is True, recorded in London with members of the SF Bay Area band Clover.
Soon afterwards he was backed by the band he’d play with for decades, The Attractions, (Steve Nieve on keyboards, Bruce Thomas on bass, and Pete Thomas on drums), where he became the Dylan of the new-wave set with classic LPs in successive years.
This Year’s Model came out in 1978, followed by Armed Forces in 1979 and Get Happy!! in 1980. It was an incredible four year run that deserved two exclamation marks if not more that produced hits “Alison,” “High Fidelity,” “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes” “Radio Radio,” and “Oliver’s Army” among many others.
All while our hero wore those Buddy Holly glasses and a Johnny Rotten sneer.
