Elliott Skinner Releases Debut Solo EP How Far We’ve Come

Elliott Skinner

Elliott Skinner has released his debut solo EP, How Far We’ve Come, through Ninja Tune. Its focus track, “Carols of My Mind,” features Victoria Canal and Radamiz.

The six-song set moves through folk, soul and experimental Black music traditions, using reflection as its center of gravity. Skinner writes about doubt, aging, childhood wonder and the search for a more meaningful life.

The EP also includes “DON’T BE A RUNNER,” named a Song You Need to Know by Rolling Stone, and “THAT KID” with Jensen McRae. Visuals directed by Simon Morrison accompany the project.

Texas-raised Skinner spent a decade developing his practice in New York and has worked with Jon Batiste, Leon Bridges, Chance the Rapper, Saya Gray and Samora Pinderhughes. This EP arrives twenty years after he wrote his first song.

He describes the music as part of the Black Radical Music Tradition: organic work made by people for people, intended to narrow the distance between them.

U2 The Unforgettable Fire album coverOctober 1 — U2, The Unforgettable Fire (1984, Island Records). U2 loosened its grip on straightforward arena rock and let Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois lead the band toward something hazier and more adventurous. “Pride (In the Name of Love)” became the anthem, but the album’s atmosphere is what makes it special.
