Tash Sultana Returns With “Something in the Water”

Tash Sultana

Tash Sultana has released “Something in the Water,” their first new single and video since signing a global deal with BMG. The song begins a new chapter rooted in live instruments, human performance and personal reset.

Warm guitar, an unhurried groove and vocals that move from restraint to full force place the track inside the sound Sultana built as a multi-instrumentalist and loop performer. Its long back half gives the playing room to lead.

Sultana says the song came after stepping away from relationships, systems and former versions of themselves that no longer fit. The result is a reclamation of why they started making music.

The video is built around four cards inspired by a numerology reading: The Avalanche, The Climb, The Summit and Dominance. Multiple versions of Sultana embody the stages from rupture to recovery.

Sultana has moved from Melbourne street performances to festival headlining, arena dates and billions of streams.

Fifty years ago, 14-year-old Larry Mullen Jr. pinned a handwritten notice to the school board that read “DRUMMER SEEKS MUSICIANS TO FORM A BAND,” Bono, David Evans and Adam Clayton eventually answered the call.

A Banger Was Released Every Day In October

U2 The Unforgettable Fire album cover

What was it about October that throughout rock history such great music was dropped in this magical month? From the Boss to the Pistols, from Taylor to Dire Straits, October has delivered way more treats than tricks.

U2 The Unforgettable Fire album coverOctober 1 — U2, The Unforgettable Fire (1984, Island Records). U2 loosened its grip on straightforward arena rock and let Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois lead the band toward something hazier and more adventurous. “Pride (In the Name of Love)” became the anthem, but the album’s atmosphere is what makes it special.
