Céline Dion Keeps Her Promise and Returns to the Stage
Céline Dion walked onto a Paris stage Saturday night and barely made it through the opening moments before the emotion hit. Her first full concert in more than six years began with “On ne change pas” at Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, where she stopped for a moment, wiped away tears and took in a crowd that had waited a very long time to see her do this again.
The 58-year-old singer told the audience she had made a promise to return, then delivered a show that mixed the French and English songs that built her career. The night included “Because You Loved Me,” “The Power of Love,” “My Heart Will Go On,” “I’m Alive” and “All by Myself,” along with several songs that had either never been performed live or had been absent from her shows for years.
Dion’s last full concert was in March 2020, before the pandemic shut down touring and before her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis forced her farther away from the stage. She had made a few major appearances since, most famously at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but this was the real comeback: a two-hour-plus concert and the opening night of a long Paris run that continues through October and returns again next May.
