Leon III Release Psychedelic Fourth Album Candy Cigarettes

Leon III

Leon III have released their fourth studio album, Candy Cigarettes, a widescreen blend of psychedelic rock, country color and shoegaze texture built for front-to-back listening.

The band recorded the project across two years with its core touring lineup and producer Mark Nevers, whose credits include Silver Jews and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. That continuity gives the record cohesion without sanding down its contrasts.

Andy Stepanian and Mason Brent remain at the center. Stepanian’s writing moves through envy, faith, longing and collapse, while Brent’s guitar brings dissonance, feedback and sudden bursts of classic-rock force.

Leon III have sometimes been described as a Southern Pink Floyd because their albums reward patient, repeated listening. Candy Cigarettes keeps that scale while avoiding both empty psychedelia and familiar Americana shortcuts.

U2 The Unforgettable Fire album coverOctober 1 — U2, The Unforgettable Fire (1984, Island Records). U2 loosened its grip on straightforward arena rock and let Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois lead the band toward something hazier and more adventurous. “Pride (In the Name of Love)” became the anthem, but the album’s atmosphere is what makes it special.
