As Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard wrapped up their European Tour last week with giant shows in Ireland and Scotland, it was a one-off “secret” club date that raised a lot of interest.
The night before the ’80s rockers were to play Wembley Stadium to 90,000 fans, Mötley Crüe booked a show at the Underworld nightclub which holds about 450 people. Billed as Dögs of War, the band played their usual staples of “Kickstart My Heart,” “Girls, Girls Girls,” and “Shout at the Devil.”
But that British audience also got to hear the live debut of the band’s newest cover song, the Beastie Boys classic, “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party),” featuring new guitarist John 5.
Crüe have long had covers in their set like Brownsville Station’s “Smokin in the Boys Room” and The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” so a semi-rap gem was the pleasant surprise we never knew we needed.
Singer Vince Neil did an interview the night before the not-so-secret show where he explained the band will be putting out a new record soon and the Licensed to Ill party rocker will indeed be on the album.
