Pearl Jam kicked off their Dark Matter Tour on Saturday, May 4, with a ton of live debuts from their new album, deep cuts and covers from two fallen friends.
The Seattle band started the tour about 150 miles north in Vancouver, Canada, at the sold out Rogers Arena where Justin Timberlake began his latest outing earlier in the week.
Instead of a magical floating stage, Pearl Jam relied on a diverse set of 25 tunes across seven of their studio LPs — and a giant video screen behind them.
Being it was the tour kickoff supporting a new collection of tunes, and given those new songs are tearing up the rock charts, PJ treated the 19,000 Canucks to debuts of “React, Respond,” “Wreckage,” “Dark Matter,” “Upper Hand,” “Won’t Tell,” and “Something Special.”
