On May 18, 20 years ago Lily Allen performed a short show at a small club that got the ball rolling on what would be an impressive career that is still skyrocketing.
Just 21 years-old at the time, Allen performed at the Notting Hill Arts Club in London during a short window between her online breakout and the release of her debut LP Alright, Still.
Her seven-song set of “LDN,” “Nan You’re a Window Shopper,” “Littlest Things,” “Shame for You,” “Knock ’Em Out,” “Smile” and the encore “Alfie,” would all eventually appear on Alright, Still which was released later that summer in the UK in July 2006, and they all got their live debuts that night.
In 2005, Lily signed a development deal with Regal Recordings, an EMI imprint, for a reportedly modest sum of about $46,000. She was encouraged to start a Myspace page, which she excelled at, starting in November 2005, posting funny entries and uploading original songs.
