Stadium Arcadium was a breakthrough album for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2006, a mere 23 years into the LA band’s career.
The toned-down double LP was the group’s first number one debut on the Billboard Top 200, it was the first time they were nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year, and it was the last time guitarist John Frusciante would record an album with the group until 2022.
While the band, the label and the fans were seemingly in agreement that “Dani California” was the gem of the 37 tunes produced by Rick Rubin for Stadium Arcadium, “Snow (Hey Oh)” provided the most surprising reception.
Released as the third single, the contemplative diddy went to #1 on the US Modern Rock chart (the 11th time the RHCP achieved such a rank), and has been a staple in the band’s set.
The first time they played it was on April 14, 2006 at the tiny Canvas Club in London at a “secret” show before the album had officially been released.
