Slash’s new blues album Orgy of the Damned, is mighty good.
No, the top-hat-wearing Guns N’ Roses guitar hero didn’t write a bunch of bluesy tunes as a canvas to shred over, instead, he invited a wide variety of stars to help him celebrate some of the best blues numbers out there.
Guests as diverse as Chris Stapleton, Iggy Pop, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, and even Demi Lovato do the honors of rocking the mic on covers that were first made famous by Muddy Waters, Albert King, Robert Johnson and Willie Dixon, to name a few.
The result is a retelling of some of these blues legends’ most recognizable hits sung by very familiar voices, with Slash treating them with tender loving care. He is not blasting through them.
