I have a confession to make. Before I got the new Faces 8 cd + 1 DVD boxset, Faces / At The BBC – Complete Concert & Session Recordings 1970-1973, recently, I had never owned a Faces record before.
On paper it makes no sense because I love Rod Stewart, as well as Ron Wood. Plus Kenney Jones, is my second-favorite Who drummer.
But moments after digging into this treasure trove of classic rock contained in these discs, I realized I had inadvertently missed out on Rod’s greatest era. Who doesn’t love “Hot Legs,” “Maggie May” or even “Downtown Train” from his solo work, but these early ’70s years were gold.
Faces at the BBC is an exhaustive collection of one of the UK’s most influential rockers who’s gritty, soulful, and (most importantly) fun music would go on to inspire The Replacements, Black Crowes, and even their peers The Rolling Stones.
