Lionel Richie, the former singer of the Commodores, co-writer of “We Are The World,” and multi-platinum solo star celebrates his Golden Jubilee today as he turns 75 years old.
But just like the title of his second solo album, Can’t Slow Down, Lionel is a man in motion, currently in the midst of a Vegas residency, a tour, and later this summer will be co-headlining a star-studded festival alongside Diana Ross in Inglewood, California.
Lionel first made it big as a singer, saxophone player, keyboardist, and songwriter for The Commodores, a group that blended funk and R&B in a hugely successful way.
During the time he was with the outfit (1968-1982), the group gave us such chestnuts as “Brick House,” “Easy,” “Three Times A Lady,” “Nightshift” and even the instrumental “Machine Gun,” you might remember from the Boogie Nights (1997) soundtrack.
