When James Hetfield introduced “Inamorata” at the Olympiastadion in Munich, Germany last Sunday he made it sound like there was something wrong with the 11-minute rocker.
“This next song, we have never, ever played live before,” the 60-year-old singer/shredder said to the 75,000 in attendance.
“And, you know, in our band we don’t recognize the word ‘mistake’, because there are no mistakes’ there’s just unique moments that happen,” he said. “That’s what we need to tell ourselves. This one is from 72 Seasons. It’s one of my favorites, so I’m gonna like it.”
What came out was a perfectly fine, 11-minute mid-tempo jam that would actually be a nice warmup tune for sound check to get the juices going. There’s room for everyone on this, from bassist Robert Trujillo to both guitarists, and even Lars gets to work on that 4/4 beat he rarely gets to trudge through.
But it’s even better as a mid-set stretch-your-legs song in the set. Sometimes you want another beer. Sometimes you see someone eating some nachos and you’re like, “they got olives here in the freakin Olympiastadion?” Suddenly I want nachos.”
