Sixteen years ago today (5/8/09), Nine Inch Nails kicked off their 25-date NIN|JA 2009 tour at the Cruzan Amphitheatre (now called the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre) in West Palm Beach, Florida, with some notable live debuts and hits.
The tour was a co-headlining collab with Jane's Addiction where someone cleverly deemed the thing NINJA, which was cool. But it was also billed as a farewell of sorts for live music from Trent Reznor et al, which was the opposite of cool. And indeed, NIN would take a long, four-year break from gigging when NIN|JA ended.
Pixies played three consecutive nights in Germany last week (5/1, 5/2, 5/3) and gave a treat to each of the cities they rocked.
Thursday in Berlin they flooded the zone with a whopping 29 tunes. Friday in Cologne they live debuted a pair of new tracks from their latest record, The Night the Zombies Came.

David Lee Roth celebrated the end of his "first retirement" with the 1984 Van Halen hit "Panama" Saturday night (5/3) at the M3 Rock Festival in Maryland.
If you think a lot of people flocked to see Lady Gaga at Coachella and then in Mexico City, you won't believe what she just did Saturday (5/3) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Copacabana Beach, which has famously hosted 1.5 million fans for a Rolling Stones show in 2006, as well as 1.6 million for Madonna's grand finale last year of her Celebration Tour, was the venue for Gaga's record-breaking gig that drew over two million Brazilians and tourists.
In 2009, Michael Jackson’s death stunned the world, Lady Gaga topped charts with “Poker Face,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video was in heavy rotation, and Kanye West infamously interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMAs.
It was also the first and only time Guns N' Roses performed in South Korea - until last week.
“I knew Post Malone was right when he said we had to start the tour at home," Jelly Roll proclaimed at the opening night of the Big Ass Stadium Tour Tuesday (4/29) in Utah, Posty's adopted home.
Jason Bradley DeFord aka Jelly Roll isn't technically a co-headliner in the tour of the face tattoo titans, he's a "very special guest." His set happens right before Malone's, and he gets nearly an hour.
