The Vegas Sphere, U2’s Forthcoming Home, Lights Up

The MSG Sphere, home of U2’s Las Vegas residency starting this fall, shined bright like a $2 billion diamond on the fourth of July.

The 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide entertainment marvel is the passion project of billionaire James Dolan, owner of AMC Networks, Tao Nightclubs, Madison Square Garden, and the New York Rangers and Knicks, among others.

Dolan first broke ground on the arena on the Strip near the Venetian way back in 2018. The proposed budget was a little over a billion dollars. The project was scheduled to be completed in 2022 but due to supply chain issues related to COVID, the ribbon won’t be cut until September.

But on July 4, the outside of the building was ready for its flex.

Executives had been fired, budgets have been busted (by over a billion dollars), and even some Wall St. wizardry had to be wielded to complete what Dolan calls “the world’s most sophisticated entertainment venue.”
