When people compare great Coachella performances going forward, since 2018 there has been one standard: Beyoncé.
No one has done a Super Bowl halftime better than Prince, no one has busted a dance move on TV like Michael Jackson debuting the moonwalk, and no one has ever rocked a stage at Coachella like Queen Bey did ten months after delivering twins.
The first Black woman to ever headline the storied festival in the desert did it in a way that screamed “I’m Black and I’m proud,”on multiple levels.
So intricate was Mrs. Carter’s excellence that those two Saturday nights in Indio, if anyone dares compare other primo Coachella performances, perhaps they should first see if they compare to her first 12 minutes. Then they will see the folly in their ways.
