Tampa rapper Doechii wrapped up her breakthrough year with a series of awe-inspiring performances this month that put an exclamation mark on her full-court press.
Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon might seem like she just appeared yesterday but her newest release, Alligator Bites Never Heal, is technically her third mixtape although the previous two were EPs while her 2024 effort is 19 tracks of pure fire and soul.
It’s so good it earned her three 2025 Grammy nominations including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best New Artist.
Along with Doechii, her fellow nominees for Best New Artist are Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Khruangbin, RAYE, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. Stiff competition indeed.
