Paul McCartney kicked off the Australian leg of his Got Back Tour with newer songs, Wings hits, Beatles classics, and a sweet video duet with his old pal, John Lennon.
The 81 year-old legend has a warm place in his heart for Australia, Adelaide in particular, as that is the town where the Mop Tops attracted 350,000 when they made their first appearance there in 1964.
A mere 8,000 packed the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for an intimate but epic night as Paul delivered three hours of music from 39 songs.
That’s quite an accomplishment when you realize one of the songs he played at the October 18 kickoff, “In Spite of All the Danger,” he wrote in 1957 for The Quarrymen, the pre-Beatles group founded by Lennon in ’56 that Paul joined in ’57 and George Harrison joined in ’58.
