For the last 25 years, The Light of Day Foundation have been organizing concerts in and around Asbury Park, NJ, the unofficial home town of Bruce Springsteen.
The name of the non-profit devoted to fighting Parkinson’s disease and related neuro-degenerative diseases takes its name from the Boss’ 1983 song “(Just Around the Corner to the) Light of Day,” which was originally recorded by Joan Jett and Michael J. Fox for the movie, Light of Day (1987).
Bruce was a surprise guest at the inaugural Light of Day show in 2000 during Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers’ third song and he never left until the end of the set, 13 songs later.
Saturday night (1/17), Joe & the Houserockers was once again on the third song at the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre, when that pesky 76 year-old legend made his way onto the stage.
