In a perfect example of how sometimes the After Party is better than the main event, Chappell Roan performed at Elton John’s 33rd Annual Viewing Party Sunday (3/2). No disrespect to all the singing and dancing that happened on Hollywood Blvd., but what went down a few miles west of the big shindig in a spot often busy with shirtless guys and fuzzy dogs, was mighty compelling.
Held in the West Hollywood Park just feet away from The Abbey (the bar Chappell wrote “Pink Pony Club” about), Roan played a pretty generous set with her live band and as a grand finale the two queer icons sang together to wrap up the night.
The evening is a glamorous way for John to raise money for his AIDS foundation which has a goal to eradicate the deadly disease in 5 years.
In the last decade alone Elton has had musical guests like The Killers, Nile Rogers & Chic, Greta Von Fleet, Brandi Carlile, and Cynthia Erivo & Dua Lipa, but to be able to snag Chappell is the get of the night.
