Iron Maiden’s Run For Your Lives Tour draws exclusively from the band’s first nine albums, but five more overlooked songs would give the celebrated set another dose of surprise.
The proposed additions are “Only the Good Die Young,” which Iron Maiden has never played live; “Still Life,” absent since 1988; “22 Acacia Avenue,” shelved in 2003; “Die With Your Boots On,” last heard in 2005; and “Running Free,” retired from the set after a 2013 performance in Santiago. Each comes from the 1980-1992 period celebrated by the tour and would be immediately recognizable to longtime fans.
Bassist Steve Harris has said song selection is partly governed by what Bruce Dickinson wants to sing as the material becomes more demanding with age, although Harris specifically named “Only the Good Die Young” as a deep cut he would have welcomed. With nine albums supplying far more songs than one concert can contain, the five selections show how much important material remains outside an already powerful setlist.
