While it might seem adorably quaint by today’s standards, 31 years ago today the Rolling Stones live streamed part of its concert in Texas through the Internet, becoming the first band to achieve a feat many of you can do with technology in your pocket.
On November 18, 1994, in the middle of their Cotton Bowl stop of the Voodoo Lounge Tour in Dallas, the Stones sent five songs through the world wide web, which most US households barely had access to.
The Internet was so new back then less than 10% of American homes had access to it, so when a small New York company called Thinking Pictures approached the rock legends with the pitch to stream a handful of tunes to 1,000 computer users, you might understand why the lads weren’t saying yes in a jumping jack flash.
